My Best Friend Died

My best friend died. Well, not exactly. It was more like she died in a dream. But it felt all too real.

Okay, so last night I had a semi-weird dream. Nope. Not semi, full-on weird dream. And there are a bunch of people in it from school, so I'm going to replace their names for the sake of their privacy (?? I don't know. I'm just doing this because it seems like the right thing to do.).

So this dream was a complete replica of the Hunger Games. I'm not joking in the least bit. There were two teams, competing against each other. Most people started out with guns. Or at least I did. (Disclaimer: According to scientists, dreams reflect nothing about one's personal comprehensive thoughts, behaviors, or personality. So don't judge me by my dreams. They are just fragments of random pieces of information lodged away in my brain, put together. Kind of like fitting together puzzle pieces from many different puzzles.) And we only had a limited amount of bullets. But as the 'game' went on, you could sometimes pick up a gun from off the floor and have there be bullets in it. Sometimes the deceased left loaded guns.

The setting was just as strange. We were in a closed, compact... building? I'm not really sure what it was. I remember that the main room was darkly lit with blue lights. And there was one huge door through which we originally entered, but that door was locked and impossible to open. Now that I think about it, the setting kind of looked like the laser-tag arena I went to. So there were lots of blocks and barriers to temporarily hide behind. BUT, there were also a bunch of smaller rooms. There were many closets, and there was a mini cave where our team staked-out. There were secret doors, and non-secret doors. There was even a bathroom! That's the only door with a lock on it. I briefly found a secret door that went underground into a room that looked like a green room with a bath tub. But there were already people there.

Okay, so I went back upstairs and there was a shootout going on. It was extremely intense, and my best friend, who we will call Julie, was involved. We (our team) were trying to do something, I'm not really sure what it was. I think there was a code we had to solve, so that we could get out. And we got the code and we were trying to unlock something. Once again, it was a dream so it's slightly hazy. Back to the shootout! So it was intense combat.(Additional note: One of my very close friends was on the opposing teams... it was very awkward.) Some people were fighting hand-to-hand. I had my gun and was exchanging fire. And Julie also had her gun and was firing at someone on the other team. (Note: Many people had already died by then. I'm not really sure if our whole grade was involved, because the place was wayyy to small to hold 200 people. I think 75 people max.) The person who Julie was shooting at (I don't remember who), was physically very close and it seemed like they were getting closer, so there were less and less barricades to hid behind.

Then.

It.

Happened.

The dreadful sound of the empty gun clicking (sorry to interrupt the suspenseful mood, but just to clarify, it was Julie's gun that was empty). The enemy had Julie cornered and pulled the trigger. The wound was fatal and Julie died. And I all watched it happen. I was absolutely DEVASTATED. I didn't have enough time to actually comprehend what had happened because I was simultaneously fighting. Some way or another, the 'game' ended. I was the only survivor on my team. What happened after that was stranger. For some reason, we had to replay a part of the 'game'. Like, go back in time, and actually do some part of it over again. And I was like "Hurrah! I can save Julie!". So we went back right to the part before the shootout began. Now, I thought, since were kind of resetting, that maybe there weren't people in the secret underground hideout, and Julie could go there. There was no way I was letting her die again.

(These are what Peds Socks are)

The whole second time around of the game is a lot more vivid to me than the first. I remember yelling to Julie to stay in the cave (which was a temporary hiding place) and not to fight. She wouldn't listen. She said that she was going to fight, and I kept telling her to stay in the cave. I eventually gave up the argument because I would only be downstairs for a short period of time. Hopefully she wouldn't die again in that time. So, I went to the bunker and there were I think two people there. Maybe three. But they were all in very generic clothes (we might have been wearing special suits or something on the battlefield, so it was surprising to see them in their school clothes). Someone was in the bathtub peeing. And I couldn't see who it was, but I could definitely see they were peeing. And I didn't know which team any of them were on. They didn't even seem to have weapons. Obviously I was curious and concerned about the girl who was peeing in the bathtub. So I kept asking who it was and she wouldn't respond. And eventually she told me and I helped her out of the pee bath. It was pretty gross, but then I realized I had to get back out there. I ran back upstairs and I couldn't find Julie anywhere. I checked in the cave, I frantically ran around the perimeter. I only saw a gun laying in the corner.

Then I saw a body. It was wrapped up so that her whole body was covered. Except her toes. And this Julie, in real life, is very very pale. And she also wears Peds socks all the time. (Those are what Peds Socks are.)

So when I saw her feet sticking out, I was praying that it wasn't Julie. But I saw her feet and she was wearing green and pink Peds, and my worst fears were confirmed. Julie had died again. I was even more devastated this time. I could of prevented her death, and it was my fault because I helped out the girl who peed in the bathtub. I felt so guilty and so awful. I could barely bring myself to fight. I didn't want to die either though. I saw someone from my enemy team (let's call him Phil) so I tried firing my gun at him but it was empty. Phil's gun clearly wasn't. Let me inform you that I don't really like Phil in real life. We argue way too much, but he was at fault most of the time. I literally just looked him in the eye and said, "Can you please just let me go? I will forgive you for everything and we can just start over." And surprisingly he did.

This time, I wasn't the only survivor of my team. There were two more people. But that didn't really matter to me-- I was grief-stricken. After we got out, we all had lunch in our school cafeteria. Everyone seemed so lively and energetic and that seems so strange to me (dream me and real me). How could you be so okay after so many people died? Everyone's parents were there, and my dad was there. So we ate lunch and I was just so sad and tired, and still in shock. (Note: The whole thing felt so real. I'm pretty sure I cried in my sleep. It was very upsetting.) The parents around me all tried cheering me up, telling me that they could find me a boyfriend (??? that did not make me feel better). I thought back to how I would never be able to text her for advice or for help or just for laughs. I think I felt the same despair when Julie died in another dream I had. Yes, I've had another dream where the same best friend died. She got into a car accident a day or two before our school's semi-formal and I went dress shopping with her (in real life), so all I could think about is that she could never wear that dress she wanted. Anyway, even though this dream was very crazy, now that I think about it, I think there is an underlying meaning. Don't worry, the disclaimer is still true, but I think that I just have a fear that I'm going to lose my best friend. I don't know what I'd do without her and I can't imagine my life without her. I've lost a few 'best-friends' (not to death, but we had major falling-outs), and I'm so scared that that's going to happen with Julie. Thankfully Julie is alive and well so I'm going to go text her and tell her about how she's such a great person.

TL;DR? I had a dream where my best friend died twice while we were in something like the Hunger Games.
